Gloucester starter Jeff Singer pitched a one hitter leading the Roadrunners to a 9-0 win against Century College on Saturday afternoon. Teammate Narciso Crook came close to hitting for the cycle ending the game with a single, double, and triple.
Both teams were held scoreless through three innings. The Roadrunners had back-to-back singles to lead off the fourth. Narciso Crook then stepped up to the plate and hit a bomb to right field and slid safely into third with a triple. This put Gloucester up 2-0. A single by Bret Philips brought in Crook. A pair of ground outs moved Philips around the bases before he scored on a Dan O’Neill single to make it 4-0. The inning ended on a strikeout.
The Roadrunners struck again adding five runs in the sixth. Century pitcher Jared Dettman opened the inning by walking Bret Philips and giving up a single to Eric Frain. George Monsen then hit a fielder’s choice that scored Philips and allowed Monsen to reach first safely. Dettman was replaced by Miles Nablo gave up back-to-back singles. Bryan Pearlmaker then hit an fly ball to right field which was caught for the out but brought in a run. Nable then walked Tom Kain before allowing two more singles to Alex Debellis and Narciso Crook to put the Roadrunners up 9-0.
Jeff Singer finished the game with a ground out, a walk, another ground out, and a fly out to end his one-hit bid.
Both team will play tomorrow, Sunday, May 26th. Century College will face Montgomery College at 9 a.m. in the loser’s bracket. Gloucester County College will face Niagra County Community College at 4 p.m. in the winner’s bracket.
