Waubansee Community College took the lead in the first inning and never looked back as it powered forward to a 8-3 win over Nassau Community College.
The Chiefs started off with a bang batting through the lineup in the first inning. Cody Burton got things started with an infield single. He made it around the bases with a stolen base, passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch. Nassau starter Luke Noone issued three walks to load the bases. Harry Vickers stepped into the box and hit a single to left field bringing in two more runs. Tevin Brown drew the walk to load the bases before Tyler Namoff was walked to give Waubansee another run. A flyout and a pickoff ended the inning and made the score 4-0.
Nassau cut the lead down to three runs after plating one in the bottom half. William Cheshire singled to left followed by a Chris Appell double to right to put two runners in scoring position. Brandon Gideon hit a ground ball to the infield but a throwing error by third baseman Eric Ray allowed Gideon to reach first and the run to score. The Lions added another run in the third. Appell singled and was brought in to score with two ground balls to make the score 4-2.
Despite Nassau trying to make a dent in the score, Waubansee added to their lead in the sixth inning. Tevin Brown reached first on a throwing error and made it to second on a passed ball. Namoff and Omar Fernandez drew walks to load the bases before Burton hit a deep single to right field to bring in the two in.
Waubansee added another two runs in the ninth. With two outs on the board, Bobby Smith reached on an infield error before stealing second base on the next pitch. An Eric Ray single brought in Smith. Back-to-back singles would bring in Ray, the final run of the ballgame, to make the score 8-3.
